Established in 1937, SERS is a statewide public pension system that provides pension benefits and access to post-retirement health care for Ohio’s non-teaching public school employees.
SERS provides retirement security for Ohio’s non-teaching school employees, including administrative assistants, bus drivers, food service workers, librarians, maintenance personnel, teacher aides, and treasurers. In retirement, these individuals receive reliable pension benefits that are spent locally on essentials such as groceries, health care, and other goods and services.
Of the 83,327 individuals receiving pension benefits from SERS, 91% live in Ohio. In FY2025, pension benefit payments totaling nearly $1.4 billion were distributed across all 88 Ohio counties, positively impacting local economies statewide.
